Numerous neurological diseases, such as epilepsy and strokes, are the result of altered communication between cells in the nervous system. Although drug treatments are available, 10 million people worldwide experience epileptic fits and many stroke patients face long-term deficits. The European SynMech project aims to restore proper communication between nerve cells using magnetic fields and biocompatible nanoparticles. Participants of all ages will engage in interactive pursuits to illustrate the advantages of an approach that repairs nerve cell connections in a non-invasive manner.
