Dopo un PhD all’Università di Innsbruck nel 1985, si è concentrato sulla dinamica del carbonio organico nel suolo e i cambiamenti climatici in Germania e Canada. Dal 1991 fa ricerca sulla microbiologia ambientale e fonda il gruppo Microbial Resource Management. Ha co-fondato 2 società e lavorato sulla digestione anaerobica. Professore Ordinario dal 2011, ha diretto per 10 anni il Dipartimento di Microbiologia e il Centro di Scienze e Biotecnologie Ambientali. La sua ricerca include il microbioma della mosca soldato nera e il trattamento delle acque reflue. Ha istituito il monitoraggio nazionale austriaco delle acque reflue del SARS-CoV nel 2020. Ha supervisionato oltre 80 tesi di master e 20 di dottorato. Ha curato 4 libri Springer ed è stato redattore capo per Geoderma e Applied Soil Ecology. Ora lavora per BioTreaT GmbH al progetto Interreg CEDRIC e promuove la comunicazione scientifica attraverso il Science Center MikroMondo, mostrando al pubblico la microbiologia insieme alle arti
Heribert Insam
After a PhD at the University of Innsbruck in 1985, Heribert focused on soil organic carbon dynamics and climate change in Germany and Canada. Returning to Innsbruck in 1991, his research expanded to environmental microbiology, when he founded the Microbial Resource Management group. He co-founded 2 companies and worked on Anaerobic Digestion. Appointed Full Professor in 2011, he headed the Department of Microbiology and the Center for Environmental Science and Biotechnology for 10 years. His research included the Black Soldier Fly microbiome and wastewater treatment. He established Austrian nationwide SARS-CoV-Wastewater monitoring in 2020, and has supervised over 80 MSc and 20 PhD theses, edited 4 Springer books, and served as Editor-in-Chief for Geoderma and Applied Soil Ecology. He now works for BioTreaT GmbH on the Interreg Project CEDRIC, and promotes science communication through the Science Center MikroMondo, showcasing microbiology to the public in conjunction with the arts.
