Stefano Fantoni è tra i tre massimi scienziati di nazionalità italiana nel campo della fisica nucleare teorica.
Ha ricoperti rilevanti incarichi nazionali e internazionali quali: professore ordinario di fisica nucleare, Direttore della Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati – SISSA, Presidente dell’Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del sistema Universitario e della Ricerca – ANVUR, Champion dell’EuroScience Open Forum – ESOF2020, Segretario Generale dell’International Union of Pure and Applied Physics – IUPAP, Presidente della Fondazione Internazionale Trieste per il progresso e la libertà delle scienze. Ha ricevuto i premi: Kalinga 2001 (UNESCO), Piazzano 2002, Pirelli International 2006, Capo D’Orlando 2007, Eugene Feenberg Memorial Medal 2007. Ha pubblicato quasi 300 articoli, ricevendo più di 10.500 citazioni con un impact factor H = 48 ed un i10 – index = 114

Stefano Fantoni is among the top three scientists of Italian nationality in the field of theoretical nuclear physics.
He has held relevant national and international positions such as: full professor of nuclear physics, Director of the Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati - SISSA, President of the National Agency for the Evaluation of the University System and Research - ANVUR, Champion of the EuroScience Open Forum - ESOF2020, Secretary General of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics - IUPAP, President of the International Trieste Foundation for Progress and Freedom of Science.
